    What are herbs?

You're probably used to cooking with herbs and spices like basil, thyme, cinnamon or cumin. You may also be familiar with what's known as the herb - a.k.a. cannabis. In reality, the definition includes these and many more!
There are up to 80 000 plant species used medicinally around the world, which are all considered herbs. I actually think many more plants have medicinal qualities that we don't yet understand. Herbs can include flowers, roots, bark, seeds, seaweed, leaves and even fungi. Sometimes one part of the plant is medicinal, while another part is toxic. That's one reason why it's important to work with a qualified herbalist, who has deep knowledge of the herbal materia medica.
Unfortunately, many medicinal plants and fungi have become endangered or gone extinct because of ecological destruction. That's why I advocate for sustainable wildharvesting and wildtending practices and support the work of United Plant Savers.

    What are flower essences?

Flower essences are diluted extracts of wildflowers, shrubs and trees, which support emotional and spiritual wellbeing. They're preserved in alcohol or glycerin and diluted so that only the energetic imprint of the plant remains - held in a water-based formula.

You can think of them as similar to homeopathic remedies, but instead of addressing physical symptoms, they support mental and emotional balance. Though they may seem simple, crafting flower essences takes skill, presence and sensitivity to capture something incredibly subtle.

As a Bach Practitioner, I mostly work with Dr. Edward Bach's line of 38 flower remedies, developed in early 20th-century England. While Dr. Bach is often credited with creating the modern flower essence system, humans have connected with the healing magick of dew and blossoms for millennia.

    Initial Consultation

    Initial Consultation

In this 90-minute session, you'll have space to share your health concerns, history and goals with me, in as much detail as you'd like. We'll co-create a care plan that may include nourishment, herbs, flower essences, supplements, movement, Earth-based practices or referrals. I'm available to meet in person in the Greater Toronto Area or Muskoka (with COVID-19 precautions) if this is accessible for you. Otherwise, I meet with most of my clients virtually. After booking, I'll reach out within 48 hours to coordinate details and share forms. My practice runs on a donation/pay-what-you-can basis, rooted in economic justice and accessibility. You're welcome to donate via PayPal, Ko-fi, or e-transfer after the consult. I also offer two fully covered (scholarship) sessions each month. If that would support you, please email hi@halehart.com. Service, skills, or goods exchanges are also welcome! Reach out and we can make a plan.

"I have fallen in love with the herbs Aleksa suggested. I've always been someone who researched herbs to take on my own, but now I totally see (and reap) the benefit of utilizing someone deeply immersed and trained in the herbal world. They understood what my body needed and suggested plants I never thought of. My nervous system feels stronger than ever."
